This stone was designed by Jack after Ruth's death. It has many symbols: The cross signifies their Christian faith. The interlaced rings represent their 43 years of marriage. The roses are a final gift from Jack to Ruth. The birds are bluebirds. Ruth avidly collected framed prints and lithographs with a bluebird theme. Most were of a little girl looking up, usually out a window, to a bluebird in a tree branch. These prints were popular in the 1920s and 1930s and hung in many schools. Ruth's mother had such a print. Finally the polished black granite gives a sleak, unique look.
