25 August 1892

Ship manifest showing Albert G. Pohl [00546]. Albert Pohl arrived at the port of Baltimore, Maryland aboard the steamship SS Dresden on August 25, 1892. He was listed as being age 30, of good health and good physical condition, a laborer from Hungary and bound for Ill., probably meaning Illinois. He was Catholic. A "yes" is given here under "cannot read," "cannot write" and "neither read or write." This is ambiguous because "yes" can mean he could read and write, or that yes, he could not read and write. Perhaps it was the case he could not read and write English. A New York manifest by contrast indicates he could read and write. He had only $12.00 with him.
