According to Joshua Stewart in his book "Indiana County, Pennsylvania, Her People, Past and Present," John Stewart [00249] settled on a tract of land known as "Cornfield." The warrant for this land was dated February 13, 1797 and the patent was dated March 28, 1799. An entry for John Stewart matching these criteria is found in the Patent Tract Name Index at the Pennsylvania State Archives. Indiana County, Pennsylvania was formed in 1803. Before then, that area was in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
