This was likely an illegitimate birth in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Anna Maria's husband was probably not Catholic and the Church did not recognize their marriage. Anna Maria eventually did officially marry Karl Hattner on 26 October 1857. This legitimized baby Josef's birth and this record was subsequently changed to reflect that.
